Back to J & K House Homepage ………………………………………………………….. The story of three K House sisters

.

.

Bishal and NishalBishal and Nishal are brothers from the Tharu ethnic group, an aboriginal people who inhabit the western plains of Nepal. They follow the Hindu religion and are mainly farmers and peddlers. Children from Tharu impoverished families are often sold into indentured servitude (the illegal Kamlari system FNC is working to end).
.

Bishal, Nishal, their three elder brothers and parents were living in their village supported by their father’s job in the Nepali police force. However, their father was also an alcoholic and died of tuberculosis in 2001. After two years, their mother remarried and forced two of the elder brothers into being Kamlaris. Only one of Bishal and Nishal’s elder brothers farmed to provide for the family. There was no one to help and take care of these two chidlren except one 11 or 12-year-old elder brother who could only provide emotional support. Bishal also worked as an indentured servant when his elder brother was unable to fulfill the daily needs of his family from farming. Nevertheless, his elder brother managed to get by through begging door to door for his brothers.
.

Friends of Needy Children, in collaboration with NYOF, rescued Bishal and his bother Nishal in February 2006 and brought them to J house (Boys home of FNC) immediately.

Bishal

Bishal was born on October 25, 1998. At the beginning, Bishal was shy and hesitate to express his feeling quickly but now has become very confident and can express his feelings and experiences. He gets along well with his friends. He adores his younger brother Nishal and other elder brothers.  At the time he came to J House Bishal could not read and write yet he quickly learned these skills and adjusted to his new home and school. Bishal is now studying in grade three in Ullens School and his performance is very good. He is a healthy boy, very cute and loving, who behaves well and is ever-helpful. He has been accepted by everyone at his home and school.Nishal

Nishal was born on November 27, 2001. Nishal is a lovely and well behaved child. At the time he came to J House Nishal could not read and write and it took him a long time to adjust and become literate. However, Nishal is now studying in grade one in Arniko school and his performance is satisfactory. He is a healthy boy and has slim and strong body structure. He took a long time to realize that he longer needed to beg for money or food, but now he understands that he doesn’t need to: we’re taking care of all his needs, for a long time.
