Child and youth counseling

Since Ankur’s establishment, a major service of ACC has been our psychosocial counseling (especially to children). We target our psychosocial services to our major beneficiaries, i.e. J & K House, Friendship House (FH) and Happy House (HH) of HHF, MSPN and community clients.
.

This year ACC provided service to a total of 602 clients (group and individual) through 660 sessions, the maximum number of clients that ACC has served from the time of its inception. Out of 602 clients, 143 (Male = 67 and female= 76) clients were new clients (joined ACC for this year) whereas 459 clients were follow up clients who were enrolled from previous years. Likewise, 139 were the community clients who were referred by some organizations or self approached clients. The figure of community clients who came to ACC is tremendously high as compared to previous years. The major reason identified was the promotion of ACC through our radio program.
.
This year, the majority of our clients (75%) had behavioral problems such as lying, manipulating, attention seeking, school refusal, low academic performance etc. To tackle these problems, techniques such as behavior modifications, positive reinforcement, sand play therapy, I.Q and E.Q test were used successively and the clients have improved. In contrast to last year, this year only 25% of clients complained about fear, depression, restlessness, insecurity, anxiety, and attachment disorder. We used various psychological interventions such as Relaxation, Desensitization, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Play therapies, and Sand play therapy to combat these issues.
