Nutritional Outreach Camp in Chhatre Deurali, Dhading

On June 24, 2011,  the Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre successfully conducted a one day outreach camp in the Chatre Deurali VDC of Dhading district. Out of the 255 children who were assessed at the camp,  38% were malnourished. This is a relatively lower level of malnourishment as compared to our other camps in whcih the rate was as high as 51% in some cases. Among the 97 children who were found malnourished, 30% suffered from mild malnutrition, 7% were moderately malnourished and 1% were severely malnourished.

Besides assessing the health and nutritional status of children, the camp also offered educational sessions to the mothers on nutriiton and health and distributed  super flour to the children. The nutrition session also included demonstration on preparing super flour and Jaulo.

The outreach camps have been highly effective approach in creating awareness among the rural community about malnutriton and increasing their access to treatment. We were encouraged by the fact that nine chidren came to the Nutritional Rehabiltation Home in Kathmandu  for treatment together with the group and many more continued to come in the later days too.
